Value Factory Ventures acquires stake in FC-i

FC-i (First Circular insulation) has raised more than €6.5 million in a number of investment rounds for the development and production of circular and biological insulation material for the construction sector. The investors in the latest funding round are Value Factory Ventures and angel investors, after FC-i had already attracted additional funding from Rabobank and a number of subsidy providers in previous rounds.

The new capital will be used for the commercial start-up of production. This round will be followed by a number of larger investment rounds in the near future for the purpose of scaling up production. That process will be led by Value Factory Ventures.

FC-i is a manufacturer of biological and circular insulation material – a breakthrough in the field of 100% natural insulation material.  Based on residual flows from forest and nature management – also from Staatsbosbeheer and Natuurmonumenten, insulation boards are made with fungi (or mycelium). In a later phase, miscanthus fibres and residual flows from the food chain will also be processed. This is done during the patented production process through the natural action of mycelium in the production line of FC-i in Veenoord (near Emmen).

The building materials are hard and the most durable available in the market to date. This is one of the reasons why the bio-composite is extremely suitable as roof insulation. It replaces non-durable insulation materials, such as PUR, PIR, EPS and rock wool. Moreover, it is 100% circular; At the end of a building’s lifespan, FC-I takes the insulation material back for reuse.

Peter Kleijwegt, founding partner Value Factory Ventures:

There is a great need in the market for sustainable alternatives to insulation material, and FC-i offers a breakthrough in this area. This company fits perfectly into our portfolio of agrifood and biobased companies, and we also see great synergy opportunities to connect these companies so that we can make even more impact.

Peter Wolf, co-founder FC-i:

“We are very pleased with the investment and the active role that Value Factory Ventures will play within our company. Together, we can be a game changer for the construction industry, and take big steps towards the EU’s 2050 climate target.”

That FC-i has a special proposition, is evidenced by the recent attention we received among others in RTL News (starting at 12’25).
