Value Factory is investing in PolyBiotic Solutions as part of a €500,000 funding round. With this investment, we support the scaling of a patented technology for bioplastic that actively degrades under natural conditions.

The investment round was completed with a consortium of parties offering complementary expertise. In addition to Value Factory Ventures, Rodenburg Biopolymers is joining as a new shareholder. Existing shareholders PJ Milieu and MGS are reinvesting and will remain closely involved in the company’s further development.

Plastic pollution and microplastics are a growing global problem. Many existing biodegradable plastics only break down under industrial composting conditions. PolyBiotic Solutions is developing a fundamentally different solution: bio-based polymers in which a carefully composed mix of micro-organisms is integrated.

During use, the material behaves like conventional plastic – strong and reliable – but once it ends up in nature, the microbes become active and break it down into harmless natural substances such as water, minerals, and CO₂. This prevents the formation of microplastics.

Acceleration towards market application

PolyBiotic Solutions is currently scaling up from technological development to concrete market applications. The focus is on sectors with a large plastic footprint and where rapid impact is possible, such as geotechnology, construction, and non-food packaging. With a view to the next growth phase, Machiel Resink has joined PolyBiotic Solutions as the new CEO. Together with the founder, he forms the management team and will lead the further scaling and commercial rollout of the technology.

Jacco Zuijdweg of Value Factory: “We invest in technologies that deliver measurable climate impact. The solution developed by PolyBiotic Solutions is technically innovative and directly applicable in sectors with a large plastic and raw material footprint. It has the potential to drive structural change.”

In addition to capital, Value Factory actively supports strategy, scaling, and market entry. Together with the other investors, we are working on further technical development, certifications, pilot projects with industrial partners, and scaling toward commercial production. Rodenburg Biopolymers also brings industrial and operational expertise and will actively support the scaling of production and application within existing production chains.

With this investment, we are strengthening our portfolio and taking another step in accelerating sustainable material innovations that contribute to a circular economy.
