PolyBiotic Solutions ontwikkelt een nieuwe generatie bioplastics die na gebruik gecontroleerd biologisch afbreken zonder microplastics achter te laten.

PolyBiotic Solutions develops a new generation of bioplastics that biodegrade in a controlled way after use, without leaving microplastics behind. The company combines biobased polymers with specially selected microorganisms that can break down the material when it ends up in the natural environment.

Conventional plastics are strong and versatile, but often remain in the environment for hundreds of years. Even many existing bioplastics only break down under industrial composting conditions. PolyBiotic Solutions is developing a fundamentally different approach: a carefully composed mix of microbes is integrated into the material, enabling the plastic to break down after use into natural substances such as water, CO₂ and minerals.

The patented technology makes it possible to control the material’s degradation rate. This allows the plastic to retain its functionality during the use phase, while biodegrading in a controlled way at the end of its lifecycle. At the same time, the technology prevents microplastics from entering ecosystems, a major issue with traditional plastic materials.

PolyBiotic Solutions focuses on applications in sectors where large volumes of plastic are used and where biodegradability offers clear added value, such as geotechnology, agriculture, construction and non-food packaging. The technology can often be integrated into existing production processes, enabling large-scale adoption.

By combining the performance of conventional plastics with controlled biological degradation, PolyBiotic Solutions aims to make an important contribution to reducing plastic pollution and creating a more circular and sustainable plastics value chain.
